Orange Show Speedway fines three drivers

SAN BERNARDINO (Aug. 14, 2007) – One driver has been fined for speeding and two others have been fined for abusive language as a result of incidents that occurred during the stock car races at Orange Show Speedway Saturday, Aug. 11.

Waldo Barker, the driver of the No. 1 Ford Pinto in the ASA Stock Pony class, has been assessed a $50 fine for speeding. Leno’s Rico Tacos Legends Cars driver Darren Amidon and Street Stock driver Kyle Meyer have both received $50 fines for abusive language and conduct detrimental to the sport.

The fines were assessed Saturday evening and announced Tuesday by Director of Racing Joe Ganino Jr. following a review of all three incidents. The fine must be paid before the driver can compete in another event on the quarter-mile oval at the National Orange Show Events Center .

Barker, of Palm Springs , was ruled to be in violation of speedway Rule 1-18.1, which mandates a speed limit of 10 miles per hour for all cars moving through the pit area.

Amidon, of Santee , was cited for violating Rule 6-1.3 (1), which stipulates the penalty for profanity toward an OSS official or another competitor.

Kyle Meyer was fined under the provisions of Rule 6-1.1, which holds the driver responsible for the actions of his or her team, after his car owner and spotter, Mike Meyer, was deemed in violation of Rule 6-1.3 (1).

Also on Tuesday, the Versus television network announced the broadcast dates for the two recent Lucas Oil ASA Modified Series races at Orange Show Speedway. The July 21 race, won by Danny Gay, will be shown Aug. 25 at 4 p.m. The Aug. 4 race, won by Billy Johanneck, will be shown Sept. 8 at 3 p.m.

Racing at Orange Show Speedway continues Saturday, Aug. 18, with the Hype Manufacturing Super Late Models headlining a program that includes the ASA Pro 4s, Aflac Factory Fours and Mini and Jr. Mini StocKars.

Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. and racing gets under way at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (62 and over), handicapped and juniors (13-16) and $2 for children (6-12). Active military personnel and veterans with valid military identification are admitted free of charge. Parking is $4 per car with entry through Gate 3 off Mill Street .

Those unable to make it to the speedway still can follow the action with “Orange Show Speedway Live,” the radio broadcast on KTTD (AM 1350) that begins at 8 p.m. and is simulcast on the Internet at www.nixacountry.com.
